The Campania region
The mild climate, the beauty of the coasts, the wealth of art and history, the love of food, make Campania unique in the world. This region is located in southern Italy and stretches along the Tyrrhenian Sea, from the mouth of the Garigliano to the Gulf of Policastro. A travel that begins at the sea with its rich colors of the coasts, bays and cliffs, the islands in the Gulf on Naples Capri, Ischia and Procida, true masterpieces of nature.
Campania is characterized by Mediterranean vegetation where cities rich in history, art and traditions are embedded. Here you can spend an unforgettable time.
How can we forget the monument of nature that dominates this region? Vesuvius, dark and mysterious, loved for its beauty and feared for its power. And then Naples, famous worldwide for the intensity and passion of its music, which, like the city, mixes cultural and popular aspects, sacred and profane, happy and melancholy.
It lies on a tufa terrace on the sea, Sorrento. A small paradise, indented and inaccessible coasts alternate with small and hidden beaches that bring a unique landscape to life. Man’s work was great here. The impermeable areas are now adorned by a series of terraces that look out towards the sea and that are used for growing citrus fruits, olive trees and vines. From these gardens comes an intoxicating scent of orange and lemon trees and orange blossoms. Music, sea, entertainment, but also culture and history.
Unforgettable history and culture of Campania
Visiting places like Paestum, Herculaneum, Pompeii and Torre Annunziata, the Charterhouse of Padula or the Royal Palace of Caserta are an unforgettable experience.
Those who want to spend their holidays in Campania are spoiled for choice among the many options available here, but there is no doubt that the five places that have been recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites should not be missed.
Naples meets visitors for its liveliness, for the wonderful colors of the sea but also for its history, which can be seen in every corner of the old town, the largest in Europe, a true open-air museum. Everywhere you look you can admire fascinating views, tabernacles, churches and baroque obelisks. One encounters the ancient crafts, from the Christmas cribs (San Gregorio Armeno) to the incomparable art of the violin maker to the goldsmiths’ quarter. Many are the attractions of this ancient city. Castles, museums, villas and palaces, or a tour of the many churches that contain sculptural and picturesque masterpieces of enormous value.
For the exceptionality of the finds and their state of preservation, UNESCO has taken under its protection the archaeological sites of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Torre Annunziata, completely destroyed by Vesuvius in 79 AD The lava caused their destruction and at the same time the allows perfect preservation up to our times.
The most famous coast of the world
The Amalfi Coast offers a unique landscape: bays and picturesque villages that cling to the mountain in a miracle of equilibrium. The blue sea, the green of the Mediterranean maquis, the colors and lines of the small houses, merge perfectly and thus result in one of the most beautiful coastal roads in Italy. Sorrento, Amalfi, Ravello, Vietri sul Mare and Positano are some of the precious pearls that make up the chain of small towns (12 in total) on the coast.
Unesco World Heritage Site Reggia di Caserta
The Reggia di Caserta, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a masterpiece of art and architecture and a precious masterpiece. The visit of the interior is enriched by the continuous artwork, bas-reliefs, frescoes, sculptures and shelves. A colossal work: four inner courtyards, 1200 rooms, more than 30 impressive staircases such as the famous Scalone d´Onore (large staircase of honor) with 116 steps and a huge beautiful park as a framework.
Nationpark Cilento – archeology, nature and tradition
Archeology, nature and tradition are the three distinguishing features of the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano, with the archaeological sites of Paestum and Velia and the Charterhouse of Padula, a hub of cultures and peoples since prehistoric times.
A valuable testimony to the past of this country is Paestum, which boasts the three best preserved Greek temples in the world: the Temple of Hera, the oldest, the Temple of Neptune, the largest, and the Temple of Ceres, actually dedicated to the goddess Athena.
The famous island of the Gulf of Naples Ischia, Capri and Procida
Landscape of rare beauty, shaped by the wind, the sea and the people: this is what Capri and Ischia offer, places where the day is dedicated to relaxation and the night to entertainment.
Ischia owes its nickname the Green Island not only to the green mountain slopes, but also to the typical green tuff stone. Because of its mild climate, the lush vegetation and the wonderful Mediterranean atmosphere, Ischia is one of the most beautiful holiday islands in Italy. The picturesque mountain villages and characteristic coastal towns take you back to the past of the south. The small fishing village of Ischia ponte with the romantic Castell Aragonese and the far view over the entire Gulf of Naples is very romantic. Ischia is also very well known for its excellent thermal springs and their quality. The great mountain landscapes and vineyards offer exclusive hiking trails right through the tradition of the locals. An island that always fascinates and conveys an unforgettable vacation
The island of Capri is world-famous for its blue grotto and much sung about and described with the red sun that sinks into the sea in the evening. But not the only reason it is visited. Already popular in ancient times, nowadays visited by thousands of day tourists. Over the Faraglioni rocks, the Piazzetta, the Monte Solaro and the wonderful colors of the sea. A very exclusive island with exclusive tourism
And then of course Procida is not to be forgotten, the sister island of Ischia and the smallest of the 3 islands. Procida has already been chosen by numerous directors as the backdrop for their films with its wonderful lemon plantations, the picturesque fishing port Corricella and the small, secretive and romantic alleys. It is of volcanic origin and is connected to Vivara Island by a narrow bridge. But the sea is not the only thing Procida has to offer. Its alleys and churches characterize the island area and combine relaxation on the beach with the history of the historical buildings in the center. One more reason to plan a stay on Procida, because the island will be Italy’s capital of culture in 2022.
