The Liguria region!
This region is located in the north-west of Italy, on the border with France. A region with high mountains and green Mediterranean hills overlooking the Ligurian Sea with high and rugged coasts. Liguria is a region with many facets, different from one another and yet inextricably linked, with a fantastic panorama, the best conditions for an unforgettable vacation.
Nature, sea, mountains, culture, but also entertainment and nightlife. You have a wide variety of choices.
The great resource of Liguria is the sea with its rocky coasts with many small bays where you can find pretty little sandy beaches.
The coast of Liguria
The Cinque Terre, the Gulf of Poets, the Gulf of Tigullio Genoa, the Golfo Paradiso and the Riviera dei Fiori. The famous Ligurian coast extends from Ameglia to Ventimiglia for more than 300 km. Along this spectacular road you find the beauty of the landscapes with the most famous tourist resorts of Liguria. Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure, Rapallo, Sestri Levante, with its enchanting Bay of Silence and Chiavari. Lots of beaches, marinas and scenarios to be explored, leaving room for lots of entertainment and shopping in the evening.
The city of flowers Sanremo is known for the festival of Italian music and for the casino. The refined Bordighera and Alassio offers 3 km of beaches of fine sand. Varigotti and Laigueglia are some of the “gems” embedded in the Riviera di Ponente. Here you will also find Portovenere of Palmaria and Lerici with its imposing medieval castle, elegant villas and lush gardens.
The sea is beautiful enough to even attract some specimens of sperm whales, fin whales and dolphins. This area is a whale and dolphin sanctuary, this is their natural habitat where they can live in safety.
The large Ligurian forests, with ancient trees, a real natural heritage, are a wonderful alternative to traditional tourism. An immersion in nature to live and get to know the places where people, with love and devotion, have won the best fruits from this earth. Places full of history, culture and traditions.
The Ligurian attractions are numerous and all with a very special charm. Some have been declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites for their uniqueness and historical and natural value.
The Cinque Terre
The Cinque Terre with Porto Venere and the islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto are another Ligurian UNESCO World Heritage Site. Those who visit these places will not easily forget the charm and atmosphere of the five coastal towns of Manarola, Riomaggiore, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso. 18 km of coastline surround and protect a little paradise. Pristine sea, cliffs overlooking the sea, the colors and scents, all anchored in harmony with the typical buildings on the coast, combine to create a unique landscape. And then there are the islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto in front of Portovenere, an old fishing village, with colorful houses, one next to the other, which mix their deep blue sea colors.
Genoa – Unesco site
One of the UNESCO sites is in Genoa, a diverse city where the past merges with the present, with shady colors. The city belongs to the sea and the sea is hers. The culture, the places, the food and the buildings still remain from the ancient maritime republic to this day. An atmosphere that can still be found on a stroll in the “alleys”, in the narrow streets that characterize the old town of Genoa. Here are the New Streets (Strade Nuove) and the complex of the Palazzi dei Rolli, an exceptional architectural work of the sixteenth century. It was built to offer hospitality to aristocratic and political figures. Palazzo Spinola di Pellicceria with its precious paintings by Rubens, Van Dyck and Bernardo Strozzi, Palazzo Lercari Parodi, Palazzo Campanella, Palazzo Podestà are some of the most beautiful Renaissance buildings to admire when visiting this city.
Aquarium of Genoa
A place that must be visited once in Genoa is the aquarium, one of the most extensive and technologically advanced in Europe for the discovery of the marine planet. The aquarium was designed by the renowned Italian architect Renzo Piano. Seen from the outside, it is in itself a sight that will awe you. Inside, the aquarium is home to huge and varied tubs and, behind large windows, a whole underwater world: dolphins, seals, sharks and colorful fish in all shapes and sizes.
